ROSIE IS BACK HOME

After three days in "hospital" at my vet, I picked up Rosie this afternoon. She looks quite fine, but is a little KO from the trip in the car and all the excitement she went through.

But she is still a mistery to the vet and us. All tests, blood and urine were normal. Nothing special to say. Stomac and intestines are OK too. So why she doesn't eat or drink ?? We have to give her special food just by smearing it around her mouth, otherwise she wouldn't swallow it, and give her to drink with a syringe. She also has to take a little laxativ to go to the litter box.

Of course she is better home in her little basket then in a cage at the vet, but I have to feed her several times per day. Has anybody of you ever experienced such a case like Rosie ? Nothing in her life hasn't changed either. It's just an enigma.

Thank you all very much to have supported me in my worries ! It makes it easier to support.

Im wondering, does she have a cold or a stuffy nose? If her sense of smell is off she more than likely will not eat. Have you tried heating up some wet food for her and see if she tries that?

I hope she eats soon,

Mom Laure

I don't have any advice either, never had this problem and it is strange how nothing showed up on any of the tests. Hopefully now that she is home she will bounce back. Thanks for the update I've been worrying right along with you. :)

I am so sad to hear that Rosie is not doing well - we are behind so I am just catching up! I am glad that the tests were normal but that doesn't really help make her better. We had a few days where our kitty Lola was like that - for her it turned out to be gas and she did start to eat again after a few days - hopefully Rosie will start to eat again as well.

We are sending her lots of purrs and prayers to eat and get better!!

I'm glad to hear that the tests were normal, but very bummed that Rosie is not eating on her own, still! Come on little Rosie! Eat up!

Glad the tests were normal, now we just have to get our girl back on her feet, errr, paws!
I use a tube of food enhancer called Nutrical when my girls were off after giving birth. They love it. Also boiled chicken breast or boiled chicken liver worked wonders.
Feel better Rosie!

Well, I am glad Rosie is home... and sometimes no bad news is good news. Hopefully she will perk up. Perhaps she has a sour tummy. It could be anything really, but as long as you hydrate her and keep her eating something she will do okay for a long time really. sometimes, something shows up later, like an infection. Caesar had that once. He got an infection on his leg probably from one of his rabie shots.

Rosie! I hope you perk up soon.
I hope you get some sunshine and spoiled a lot by your mom.

Hmm, a medical mystery. Zippy will stop eating on occasion and that's when we know to give her hairball remedy. We hope it's something like that with Rosie, maybe Amy is right and it's just gas or something. We'll be purring and purraying that she starts eating on her own.

I will keep her in my prayers. It is true that if they don't smell, they won't eat. My THumper and Humpty went to the vet at the end of December for a viral infection and luckily the antibiotics kicked in before they lost their smell. That's when the vet told me they wouldn't eat if they didn't smell. Keep doctoring her and watching her.

Rosie is indeed a mystery. You are doing everything you can to help her. We send warm purrs and tail wags that she will rally and resume eating and drinking on her own soon.

I am SO glad Rosie is home! I'm sorry, though, that she still seems uninterested in eating. What does the vet think? I haven't seen this kind of thing without any explanation. Could it be a virus? Today I didn't feel well myself, was listless and didn't want to eat. I suppose cats can feel like that too.

Rosie we are happy you are home but you must try and start eating and drinking yourself please. Chicken livers (lightly fried in butter - yes, really) make a really appetising food to tempt cats who won't eat at all, just tiny amounts though as they are very rich. We hope it's just gas or a hairball and little Rosie soon feels back to her old self again.

Please, Rosie, start eating! Maybe listening to a little Sibelius will help.

We are happy that your Rosie is home and the tests didn't show anything serious going on with her. Other commenters have suggested either hairballs or something affecting her sense of smell, and we would agree that either of those issues would cause her not to eat. We hope she starts eating soon.

Feel better, Rosie!

Gattina, I came over here to see how Rosie is doing. Glad she is back home, even though her situation/condition is troubling.
Here is a website that offers a booklet on restoring health to animals. I have that booklet, but I don't remember it mentioning Rosie's situation in particular. I met the people who wrote this booklet. Perhaps they might be able to give you some sort of suggestion if you contacted them. They have restored health to a number of their animals and they outline what they did.

In any case, I hope little Rosie is soon feeling well.

Hello Gattina, I'm happy to read your cat is home again.
We have problems with Stella not eating when her FORL flares up. You can read up about that on the internet. Her gums are so red and inflamed, she can't eat then. Sometimes it takes an xray of the gums to discover the disease. She's lost quite a number of teeth to that disease, too. Now she manages and we have noticed the signs. About every 4 wks it flares up and we take her to the vet for a cortisone shot. So far she doesn't have to take cortison daily. A vet friend of mine told me cats tolerate the cortisone much better than dogs, so I am not worried because otherwise she'd suffer terribly.

Sounds like my Oscar. 3 weeks ago, Oscar refused to drink or eat for 2 days. The vet could not find anything wrong with him as he was not lethargy or pale etc. The vet prescribed antibiotic as he suspected some kind of infection. The next day, Oscar started eating and drinking slowly and he was ok for one week. This week Monday, he refused any food and drinks. He threw up yellow liquid biles. On Tuesday, I bought baby food. Beef and Potatoes flavour. Must make sure there is no onion, garlics. I mixed it with honey and bene-bac. Then I syringed to feed him. He did not reject. I do the same on Wednesday. This morning, he ate a little bit of tuna can food. This evening, he finished the whole plate and started to eat a bit of biscuits.

I am inclined to believe it is infection in the stomach. Bene-bac helps to ease the stomach. Honey water hydrates him.

I stopped the baby food since he could eat a bit. If he did not improve further, I believed his vet would prescribe the antibiotics again.

Get well Rosie!

We're so glad Rosie is home again and that her tests were fine. But it a real worry that she's not feeling better yet.

We don't have any idea what could have caused this. The only advise we can offer is than when one of our cats aren't well, we give them chicken broth. It always seems to go down :-)

We all hope she gets well soon. Cliff and Olivia send their purrs.

Am glad that Rosie's home again. Hmmm, could it be some hairball stuck somewhere.

Puss-in-Boots said...

Oh no! Poor Rosie and how worrying for you. Sometimes cats do become "off colour" for no reason but it only lasts a day or so. Three days or more is a long time. I do hope she comes right soon.

Rosie, a little bird told us that you ate a little, had some litter tray action and even groomed yourself a little too! This is wonderful and we think you should keep on doing those things, they will make you feel much better.

Get well soon Rosie!

PS: You should still request some chicken livers lightly fried in butter (and served on a silver platter by Gattina in a waitress' outfit)

Tee hee!

It's so strange. We're purring for her, Gattina and for you too. But we have no clue what it could be. When Scoop had a very bad chest infection he stopped eating. We tempted him with raw steak and sashimi. Maybe it will work for Rosie?
